Bravado strikes to take Superslam title

Pictured: Dean Allmark, Harlem Bravado, Thunder and Robbie Dynamite.

ALTHOUGH perhaps best known for tag team achievements, American invader Harlem Bravado made a major strike for solo success after returning to British rings last month and at New Brighton’s Floral Hall on 27 January he succeeded in ending Dean Allmark’s reign back as holder of the Superslam Championship. Bravado cut no corners as he emulated the title winning feats of countrymen Broady Steele and Sam Adonis – although it was last summer’s move to strip Adonis of the title while he was absent wrestling in Mexico that saw the belt declared vacant and left the now Wirral-based Allmark with a chance to re-establish himself as number one. Deano defeated bitter rival Robbie Dynamite on the way but everything changed at New Brighton and not only did Bravado leave with the belt firmly in his possession, he triumphed again in a re-match at Hanley when not even massive support from the Victoria Hall fans could lift  the locally born challenger to victory. Bravado says he is in Britain for the long run and ready to take on anyone from a lengthening list of potential challengers including Rampage Brown, James Mason, Robbie Dynamite, Oliver Grey and former holder metal masked marauder Thunder who has recently returned to competition after a spell sidelined with a serious knee injury. With the title open to overseas as well as UK based challengers Bravado could find himself in the firing line from Germany-based Fabian Severe who went to the United States and did well in the WWE’s cruiserweight event in 2016.

Tag and solo tests for ‘Vampire Warrior

Facing the camera:  Gangrel, James Mason, Oliver Grey and the UK Hooligans

GANGREL, wrestling’s notorious ‘Vampire Warrior,’ starts an exclusive 10 date British tour for All Star Wrestling on Friday 10 February that will bring solo clashes with home favourites James Mason, Oliver Grey and Dean Allmark plus a number of tag team challenges when the sabre toothed globetrotter is set to line-up alongside the ultra-aggressive Harlem Bravado. Gangrel made his name in the final days of WWF and continued as WWE became American wrestling’s dominant force, also making extensive tours around the world where his services remain very much in demand. Originally trained in Florida by Boris Malenko and billed from ‘the other side of darkness,’ Gangrel stands 6ft 2in and weighs-in at a little over 18 stones. His 2017 British tour begins on the tag trail at Hull City Hall on Friday 10 February against Dean Allmark and Humberside’s own heavyweight giant Colossus Kennedy and he will then be seen on Monday 13 February at the Beck Theatre, Hayes, when opposition comes from James Mason and Oliver Grey before solo meetings with Grey on Wednesday 15 at Gravesend Woodville Hall before Mason steps forward on Thursday 16 at the Playhouse Theatre, Epsom. Next, on Friday 17 at Dudley Town Hall, Mason and Allmark provide the tag opposition before Saturday 18 February features a solo meeting with Oliver Grey at the Grove Theatre, Dunstable (6pm); Sunday 19 action at theTowngate Theatre, Basildon, begins at 3pm and will see Gangrel and Bravado facing ‘UK Hooligans’ Roy and Zack Knight. Remaining tour dates for Gangrel are on Tuesday 21 February at the Baths Hall, Scunthorpe, when Adrian Severe comes from the opposite corner in for a solo clash; on Wednesday 22 at Aldershot Princes Hall as Gangrel and Bravado renew their rivalry with the UK Hooligans and there’s a final solo matching Thursday 23 at the Royal Spa Centre, Leamington Spa, against Oliver Grey. All shows have 7.30pm starts unless indicated otherwise.

UK targeted by European contenders

ALEX WRIGHT followed in the distinguished wrestling footsteps of his father Steve Wright and now runs the highly rated ‘Wright Stuff’ Training School at Nuremburg in Germany which has produced a string of top campaigners including Adrian Severe and Hans Hoffman who are both currently back in British rings and featuring for All Star. Lancashire-born Steve was one of the first wrestlers trained by Ted Beckley who later introduced ‘Dynamite Kid’ Tom Billington and Davey Smith to the ring. Steve went on to become a major figure on the then booming European tournament scene with an almost year-round succession of long running tournaments in major German and Austrian cities. Alex made his ring debut in Germany at the tender age of 16 in 1991 and went on to spend nine years in the United States on the World Championship Wrestling (WCW) circuit and also worked as a coach at the WWE’s performance centre in Orlando, Florida. The ‘Wright Stuff’ operation regularly bring in top current and former stars for training seminars and both Severe and Hoffman have benefitted from high level tuition. Severe, who faces ‘Zebra Kid’ Roy Knight at Hayes on 13 February and Charlie Garratt at Epson on Thursday 16 February, was born in Italy’s South Tirol, once part of Austria, but now, based in Germany, started his career five years ago after working with the Wrights. Hoffman has brought one of Germany’s most famous wrestling names back to the fore, Horst Hoffman starring all over Europe from 1957 through to the late 1970s. The current Hoffman, who is no relation, will be facing Oliver Grey in All Star’s Dudley Town Hall bill on Friday 17 February and is also at Dunstable’s Grove Theatre the following day. Also back on the scene and appearing for All Star at Scunthorpe on Tuesday 21 February against James Mason is Belgium’s always aggressive and controversial Lord Robin, accompanied as ever by his manageress, German ladies star Lady Lory. They follow-up at Aldershot Princess Hall on Wednesday 22 February when Oliver Grey provides the opposition and will be also be seen on Thursday 23 February at the Royal Spa Centre in Leamington.
