SUPERSLAM CHAMP BRAVADO STAYS!

In view: Harlem Bravado, Dean Allmark, ‘Zebra Kid’ Roy Knight and El Ligero,

SUPERSLAM title holder Harlem Bravado held on to Britain’s most prestigious wrestling championship when a Bournemouth Pavilion clash against James Mason ended with the home challenger forced to retire through injury. Bravado quickly confirmed his intention of staying in Britain through the coming summer and will be one of the top contenders when the Haven Belts are on the line in five areas during an intensive spell of high summer action at the leading holiday chain’s coastal centres. When last contested in 2015 at nearly 40 Haven venues where All Star present weekly high season bills, the belts created considerable interest with ‘The Hammer’ Justin Sysum winning in Wales and the West Country; on the South Coast the top contender was ladies man Warren Brady while on the East Coast the man who claimed the blue strap was ‘Zebra Kid’ Roy Knight. Competition was just as intense in the north and north west when Dean Allmark ultimately triumphed over a top field including James Mason and Adrian Severe, the German invader who is now campaigning for WWE in the United States. North of the Border the competition was just as fierce but masked Mexican-style luchador El Ligero saw-off a string of Scottish challengers for a popular success. For 2017 Haven events begin in Scotland from the weekend of 1-2 July with England and Wales following in the week commencing 22 July and continuing right through August.

GRAVESEND TO SEE RUMBLE FINALE

Left to right: Nathan Cruz, Charlie Garrett, Oliver Grey and Josh Faulkner.

GRAVESEND’S long, extensive and crowd-pulling 2016-17 season of All Star events is heading for a big finish when the Woodville Hall hosts an American style rumble on Friday 26 May with a string of top stars set to bid for success in an event where the only way out of the ring will be by being thrown over the top rope The exception will be the last man standing who takes the ultimate honour and no one will be more eager to put a recent injury worry behind him and be firing on all cylinders than West Country force Oliver Grey, the Exeter-based star who has been maintaining the form that earned him a two year American stint in the WWE’s fiercely competitive TNX Division. Another Gravesend favourite back with a rumble challenge will be Nathan Cruz while the fans are sure to get behind Bath blast Charlie Garrett, gritty South London star Danny Duggan and Wirral wrestling machine Dean Allmark. Superslam belt holder Harlem Bravado will be a thorn in the side of all his rivals and others on the start list include fast climbing Londoner Josh Faulkner, bearded Merseyside danger man Dan Hudson, white van driver Phil Powers and high flier Jodie Fleish. Start time is 7.30pm and seats, including a £45 family offer covering two adults and two children can be booked in advance at the Woodville Hall box office, telephone: 01474-337459.

SUMMER 2017 SET TO SIZZLE IN RHYL

Camera focus: Thunder, Diamond Steel, The Henchmen and Robbie Dynamite.

LONG the North Wales Coast’s number one wrestling hot spot, Rhyl Town Hall’s 2017 summer season starts on 25 July and there will be All Star action every Tuesday through to 29 August with stars scheduled to appear including metal masked monster Thunder who has come back with all guns blazing after being sidelined for a lengthy spell last year by a knee injury. Thunder makes full use of every pound of his near 20 stones weight and in most contests enjoys a big advantage at the scales. Making a Town Hall debut will be guitar carrying American rock star Diamond Steel who comes with a high reputation and an even bigger sound after impressing when starting his time in Britain training with former world title holder, the ‘Lancashire Lion’ Marty Jones. Tag wrestling will be a regular Rhyl feature and ready to take on all-comers will be the formidable pairing of Jim Diehard and Benton Destruction, alias ‘The Henchmen.’ Liverpool’s outspoken Ringo Ryan will be determined as ever at a venue regarded almost his home back yard and other regulars will include Dean Allmark, James Mason, ‘Yes Man’ James Drake and Potteries powerhouse Robbie Dynamite. Tickets will again be bookable in advance at the Rhyl Tourist Information Centre and at the Town Hall door from 6pm on event nights.
